odds and ends from an unusual life

smiley

Hi friends,

Hope you have all your shopping done and are settling in for some time with family and friends.

Here's another portrait, this one from a holiday party last year. Smiley is an old friend on the verge of big things.

Probably won't be posting again in 2012 so have a great holiday and we'll see you in 2013. Big things afoot, friends. Big things.

that guy

Hi friends,

The size of this photo doesn't do it justice. Really it should be big enough so that you can see his expression, which is priceless.

Mads Jonsson

Hi friends,

Here's a portrait of Mads Jonsson from Northern Escape Heli out of Terrace, BC. We were shooting with Standard Films and at the end of a long day spent a few minutes shooting portraits. I was going for the "exhausted" look, but pretty soon we were laughing…

Annie Boulanger portrait.

Hi friends,

Well with all the photos of dudes lately, I figured it was time to class the place up with someone easier on the eyes. It was always nice to shoot with Annie Boulanger. Besides being so obviously attractive, she was always willing to raise the bar for women's snowboarding by charging a little harder than the rest and surrounding herself with people who were willing to do the same.

We shot this at Revelstoke Mountain Resort in 2008.

Sean Kearns portrait

Hi Friends,

Today I'm bringing you a shot of my old pal Sean Kearns. Over the years I probably spent more time in the backcountry with him than with anyone else. I've shot a tonne of photos of Sean, starting when he was a pro snowboarder and then on into his career as a filmmaker. After a couple years in the wilderness we reconnected lately and even have some plans to do a little work in 2013.

I shot this while we were doing an early season avalanche workshop with the Mack Dawg crew in 2003.

jon roth falls in a lake

Hi friends,

Today I'm bringing you a photo of my old roommate Jon Roth. We were out shooting some other portraits and somehow I managed to convince him to fall in the lake. It was a cold fall day with winter right around the corner and still he took one "for the team," and ended up soaking wet and freezing cold. Luckily we lived very close by.

I was never stoked on how this turned out but as time has gone by I've come around to it a bit more. I'm proud of Jon and all his success. Miss ya brother.

Devun Walsh from 2000

Hi friends,

Here's another portrait of someone in a car, just like yesterday. This one is legendary awesome shred dude Devun Walsh. We shot this on the shoot for the opening credits of The Resistance in 2000. He's all rocked out in his wig and the fire chicken.

Have a nice day.

Dionne Delesalle droppin bombs

Hi friends,

Today I'm bringing you a shot from 2002. It's my old friend Dionne furling himself off of a big backcountry cliff somewhere in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. I saw Dionne on the street not too long ago. He's looking sharp.

George Bowering book reading.

Hi friends,

Saturday night was George Bowering's birthday and we were lucky enough to join him for dinner before a reading at the People's Co-op bookstore. He wasn't promoting just one book though, Bowering is prolific and on Saturday he read from both of his new releases. He signed a copy of Pinboy for me and Kim bought Words, words, words.

Afterwards there was cake.

Have a nice day.
